what companies offer good homeowners insurance?
I am looking for a good company to get homeowners insurance with. I have looked at few companies and have gotten quotes from AIG, Progressive, geico, usaa, state farm, and farmers insurance. So far Farmers insurance is the cheapest and geico is the most exspensive but gives great coverage. I guess I would like to know are these companies any good and are there any websites that I can look at see reports about them.
Thanks
No doubt the easiest way to get insurance quotes is on the web.
Why would you waste your time on the phone calling around?
the last time i needed quotes on insurance i used one of these comparison sites and it was great.
this is the site i used and it was quick like less than 5 mins.
The last thing I want to do is listen to elevator music while waiting for a salesman.
Anyway I got good quotes and ended up saving money so I was happy.
So shop around and compare quotes which is easy on the net.
Good starting point is at this site.

All insurance companies are the same, until the moment you put in a claim. An insurance company will be known by the payments it makes to its policy holders when there is a claim, not by the premium it charges. My best advice would be to talk to people who have put in claims and then decide which one you want to insure with.

I had AAA but they stopped carrying homeowners in my state. They were cheaper than anyone. So, I called around and ended up with Littitz. I called an independent agent and that was one company they work with. They were about 1/4 of the price of the highest quote I got. When I was calling around, one agent told me to make sure the company had at least an A rating. That should show up on their website. It did on Littitz web site. I’ve heard of Farmers and haven’t heard anything bad about it. I have AIG car insurance but didn’t know they had homeowners.

i have geico and i pay a little over $100 a year. cost depends on what kind of building you live in (do apartments have firewalls and smoke detectors, for example, and are there fire hydants nearby), how many rooms you have, is your house/apartment brick, wood, stucco, etc. i haven’t had to file any claims yet (and hope i won’t have to)…but i would check and see which companies are best at paying claims, and how fast they pay. for example, some companies denied claims or were very slow to pay for damage caused by hurricane katrina. i don’t remember which companies those were, but you could research this, and avoid those insurers. go for great coverage and dependability…you get what you pay for!

Deal with any top company but get several quotes.
I’d add to the list state farm.

Consumer Reports rated Farmers Insurance the worst of 20 insurance companies. The BBB rated Farmers Insurance an "F". JD Powers give Farmers Insurance its worst ratings. I personally like Country Companies.
