Protect Your Home — With A Home Owners Insurance

Article by Barry Ballard

Joplin, Missouri suffers direct hit from tornado, claiming at least 24 lives. The scale of the damage appeared to be the worst in this southwest Missouri city. The big question now is: how are the people of Joplin coping up with the situation? Of course it’s not easy. It will never be easy. When a tornado flattens your house and you’re quite surprised that you’re still alive, it’s a sign that there’s still a chance to fix a mistake. What mistake? For not putting your property under home owners insurance. Home owners insurance covers almost all personal insurance protection, from loss of personal possession of homeowners, liability insurance for accidents and content loss. Tornado, hurricanes, flash floods and earthquakes are just some of nature’s way to remind us how fragile we humans are. If you chose to live in the west coast, there’s the San Andreas fault to deal with. The east coast, on the other hand, is a hurricane-prone area. The most catastrophic hurricanes that can form on planet Earth is right there at the Atlantic (remember Hurricane Isabel)? If you’re in the Midwest, a massive tornado like the one in Joplin will surely cause damage to your properties. So regardless where you are in the United States, there’s always something destructive to deal with. Your only protection now is to put your properties under home owners insurance. Make sure to list all the open and named perils you want to cover, because most home owners insurance policies do not include claims due to floods, war and termites infestation. One company that you can try, especially if you are living in a coastal area is Better Property Insurance. This company specializes in providing property insurance for coastal homes. Just like what I mentioned earlier, if you have a house near the beach, you will be dealing with lots of wind and water damages in the event of a hurricane. There’s no way to protect your home against physical damages; it’s hard to start all over again especially when your property is not insured. With home owners insurance, at least Better Property Insurance will pay for the [specific] damages. To learn more about property insurance, or home owners insurance in particular, you can check out Better Property Insurance. Aside from coastal homes, they also cover some areas in the Midwest and west coast. You can get a free quote from their website so you can compare rates with other insurance providers. You can set an appointment with one of their agents to orient or educate you more about the importance of home owners insurance. Of course you might say that it’s just all about “sales” and they will just try to talk you out, convince you to sign a policy and ask to pay the premium but that’s not really the case, considering the chance you can spare yourself from dealing with the “aftermath”. Home owners insurance is all you need to make sure you can start all over again. Without it, you will be back to square one and it will never be easy the second time around unless you’ll be more careful and will consider all available options to protect your home.

Legal/moral question-?

Question by : Legal/moral question-?
I had a designer flown out from California and together we came up with the perfect house plan. And he employed a crew of workers that had the entire structure up a few weeks. My family and i moved in, and after living in the house, for 4 days, the entire structure collapsed in our sleep. Since we had just moved in I did not have home owners insurance yet, When the structure collapsed, my wife and daughter were casualties. And the great state of Mississippi has informed me that since my wife was African American, and that my daughter was a lesbian, that i am not unable to circumnavigate my contract with the building company. I had put all of my money into what was our dream home. I do not have the funds to even hire a paralegal. I have also learned that eminent domain will be commandeering my property to construct a bypass, so i am not getting reimbursed, Because, and i quote “due to large contributions to the tea party movement, we aint got no mo’ ci ash”. any advice?

Why Insure Your House For More Than Its Worth?

When most people buy a home they get a home owners insurance policy based on what their house is worth on the market. It’s called “Fair Market Value”.

But what if you had a fire and had to completely rebuild your home? There is a good chance that with inflation, contractors would charge you a lot more than what you paid for your home -especially in today’s housing market.

Your home is the single most valuable asset you own. The biggest mistake home owners in Atlanta make is just getting the cheapest insurance they can find. You could save a lot more money in the long run by being savvy about home insurance policies and going with one that protects you the best.

There are basically three types of home owners insurance policies. Unless you have requested otherwise, you probably have the standard market value home owners insurance.

Types of home insurance:

Market Value (Actual Cash Value)
This type of home insurance pays for the cost to replace damaged property while factoring in depreciation amounts. This is the bare minimum and often the standard required when purchasing a house. This insurance policy is based on the fair market value of your home or, what a buyer would pay for your home in today’s market.

Replacement Cost
This home insurance policy will cover the cost of rebuilding your home, up to the amount that you choose with your insurance policy. So, if your policy is for 0,000, and you have a total loss, you’ll get 0,000 to rebuild and no more. If you have underestimated the repair and rebuilding costs -which is often the case, any remaining expenses will be on your dime.

Guaranteed or Extended Replacement Cost
This is the most coverage you can get for you home. To protect yourself against inflation and construction demand, you can buy a policy that pays more than the policy limits. An extended replacement cost policy will pay an extra 20 percent or more above the limits. This type of policy is the only one that will pay to completely rebuild your home in the case of a fire or other natural disaster.

If you live in the Atlanta suburbs like Lawrenceville or Duluth where land outside the perimeter is cheaper, the cost to rebuild your house could be higher than the cost to buy –especially if your house has pricey features, such as plaster walls, detailed woodworking and hardwood floors. Failure to cover your home at full replacement value can be a nasty shock in the case of a major loss.

Don’t wait for a major disaster to look into the details of your home insurance policy. Ask your insurance agent about your current coverage and how you can improve the protection of your home and possessions.

Why are Republicans now fighting against policies that they used to fight for?

Question by Eddie: Why are Republicans now fighting against policies that they used to fight for?
They wanted to give insurance companies more business by requiring all Americans to buy health insurance. It was issue when health care over haul was being discussed in the nineties.

Did Orrin Hatch forget about car and home owners insurance?

“Congress has never crossed the line between regulating what people choose to do and ordering them to do it,” said Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT). “The difference between regulating and requiring is liberty.”

Republicans used to want pay-as-you-go rules. No that Obama and the Democrats are interested, some republicans are against it.

Republicans wanted a deficit cutting commission and when Obama agreed…they voted no.

How can anyone with common sense support people who are not interested in working for the American people? Their only goal is to see President Obama fail.

PO’d – You can have a home mortgage without insurance?

“Lenders require that you have homeowners insurance. Be sure to shop around.”

http://portal.hud.gov/portal/page/portal/HUD/topics/buying_a_home

So some of you feel that being forced to buy car and home insurance is different from being forced to buy health insurance?
Since it wasn’t that long ago that the Republicans wanted it to be manditory for all to buy health insurance – would you have opposed that too?
““Every expert who has looked at this says, ‘If you provide the subsidies and you cap somebody’s income, everybody’ll be able to afford it; it’ll be cheaper than anything you’re buying now if you’re buying it,’” he said. “I’m just telling you, we won’t get control of cost unless we cover everyone.”

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/04/20/924212.aspx

“Republicans were for much of the Democratic heath reform package before they were against it. In 1993, Republican Senators supported a bill that would have:

•Banned discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions.
•Required employers to offer insurance, as well as required people to buy insurance.
•Reduced growth in Medicare spending.”

Peace – Show us one proposal that shows Republicans are for the people.
A recent Harvard study concluded that close to 45,000 people died in 2006 because they didn’t have health care coverage. The bill is far from perfect but would save hundreds of thousands of lives and keep thousands more out of bankruptcy court. The bill would ensure coverage for millions of citizens who are currently without health insurance.

what do you think your homeowners insurance policy covers that it does not also exclude?

Question by randomjog: what do you think your homeowners insurance coverage policy covers that it does not also exclude?
by “exclusions,” i mean the quaintly worded paragraph “what is not covered” as properly as the designated “exclusions.”

by “home owners insurance” i imply iso type HO-three or other iso type sold to customers rather than commercial enterprises.
intriguing that the insurance hacks are answering the other question about homeowners insurance coverage being a scam by saying that it is valuable, but are ducking this one.

their stock answer will be “read the policy.”

as if. i am a coverage lawyer and to the extent that i can even read it, it excludes coverge of something and everything.

The HO-# policies can be confusing to non-insurance men and women. There are some many variations to the policies among the states and organizations. This frequently leads to poor info provided by men and women that do not actually understand insurance coverage.

It is a excellent thought to buy your insurance coverage through an agent instead of a website if you don’t understand insurance coverage. The agent can get the data from you about what requirements to be covered, and explain policy provisions to you. (If your agent can’t, discover a new agent.)

Personal Injury question: Injured delivering newspapers.?

Question by nemorino147: Individual Injury question: Injured delivering newspapers.?
Final February, my sister broke her leg while delivering papers for a local newspaper. It was 4am, 15 degrees, and there was some current snow on the ground. By the grace of God, the owner of the property she fell in front of was in his garage smoking a cigarette. He heard her cry out, contacted me, and together we took her to the hospital. One particular hellacious compound fracture, 1 titanium rod, 2 screws, and 6 months later, the newspaper is suing her for breach of contract, since she stopped delivering papers without having a 30 days notice. They will not willingly offer workman’s comp, due to the fact she was an independant contractor. She was also not insured. The owner of the house had a $ 1000 home owners insurance “limited injury” policy. This man was a lifesaver. She and I each would feel terible suing such a man. If I had my way, I’d torch the newspaper creating for getting so inconsiderate, but that wouldn’t resolve anything. Do you have any ideas?
She located an individual to sub for her. Its not like the papers weren’t delivered for 30 days.

Find out from the experience and move on. When I had a paper route I had numerous buddies that I could get to sub for me. She should have done the identical. She did not function for the paper, they have no obligation to give her something for an accident they did not trigger. What would you have the paper do that they have not? The accident was not brought on by them. They suffered a loss simply because your sister did not honor her contract.
