I know your homeowners insurance is suppose to go up every year, but what is normal?

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

My homeowners insurance cost has gone up from $520 last year to $609 this year. Thats a 17% increase . Is that too much of an increase?

In most cases yes. An inflation gaurd will generally increase your Coverage A limit (dwelling) by about 6%. That does not mean your premium goes up by the same amount. What you probably have is either a change to your account ie an endorsment of sorts, a reavaluation, claims will effect you as well. If none of these are the case it could be a disappearing credit. By that I mean a new homebuyer credit that decreases over a few years. 10% your first year, 6% the second year and 3% your third. None after that. If this is a new policy that’s probably what’s happening to you.

How much does Homeowners Insurance cost?

Whats a good estimate for how much my homeowners insurance would be if I’m a first time buyer, my home is around 300,000. and I have good credit, plus the home is in a brand new developement. I just want an estimate. Thanks.

You are open for a pretty good range of values, depending on where you live and what coverages you are looking for.
Typical annual premium will be $500 for lower coverages in a not-so-risky area (risky is coastal, Southern Florida, fire or earthquake zones, etc).
If you already have auto insurance, call your agent to have him/her discuss your options; there are a lot of them. Make sure to use an independent agent that can write you a policy with one of several different companies. That will give you the flexibility of premium and coverage options.
A good agent will spend 30-60 minutes with you to make sure that they understand all of your insurance needs (car, home, home-business, kids, pets, etc). If they just spend 2 minutes to get the basics from you, keep looking for a better agent.

I need auto, health, and condo insurance; what is the cheapest way of doing this?

Tuesday, January 19th, 2010

I need a descent health plan that will cover prescriptions. I am still young and don’t need much but I do have a prescription to fill that is about 250 without assistance. So I guess what I’m wondering is if I get all of them through a company like State Farm, will they give me a price break since I use them for everything? Thank you.

OK, if you don’t have anything wrong with you (but you do), health insurance is GOING to cost you $250 a month. So yours will likely be more.

Health is ONE kind of insurance, and condo/auto is another – you’re NOT going to get State Farm health insurance. Your health won’t be with the same company as your car and condo.

You WILL get a price break on the car and condo, but NOT the health.

I’d go to a local, independent agent for quotes. But health will be CHEAPEST through your employer.

On average how much does home insurance cost?

Sunday, January 17th, 2010

Or if you could help me out further, how much would home insurance normally run on a $200,000 house?

There are several things that go into insurance cost, including how new your home is, how secure it is, how close it is to fire stations, etc. Basically, it’s based upon the risk of your house getting destroyed or damaged.

It shouldn’t be too much though. I’d guess a few hundred dollars a year.

Does condo insurance cover repair cost to a common element?

Owner damaged the garage door to his condo town. Does he claim against the condo corp. or his own insurance?

It depends but definitly one of them will cover it.
call your agent or your company file a claim and ask them then you can always withdraw the claim if it doesnot cover it. make sure you ask them over the phone first.

How much does home insurance typically cost a month in Bridgeport CT?

Friday, January 15th, 2010

In the market to purchase new home, wondering how much it will cost monthly for insurance.
Thanks for your help.

No one can answer this question. I would think that it would be the same as any where else. Insurance is usually based on flood zones, age of home, furnace, brick or siding. How close it is to a fire hydrant. Maybe city or suburb. There are a few types. Replacement insurance which costs more but replaces the whole home and insurance just to cover the cost of the mortgage. All are base on the value of the house.

How much is home insurance per year in South Florida ?

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Were purchasing a home around 300,000 how much is insurance yearly ? Anyone pay around this much ?

It doesn’t work that way. It’s ALSO based on the age of the house, YOUR CREDIT SCORE, the claims history of both you and the house, etc.

And the bad news is, there isn’t any competition for homeowners insurance in FL – you’re GOING to end up with the state fund, Citizens. The HOMEOWNERS part of it will cost you about $3,000 a year. The FLOOD insurance part will likely cost you about $1500 – but the MOST flood coverage you can get is $250,000, so you’ll be needing to put at least $50,000 down on the house or you won’t be able to get the mortgage. Then the WIND coverage is probably going to run you about $5,000.

Total insurance cost . . . budget $10,000, and you should be slightly under.
